How should I approach the job market?
Jill N. Lacey and Olivia Crosby spoke about the significance of a college education and the benefits from it over someone without a college degree. From 1992 to 2004, there was a significant increase in the amount of people over the age of 25 with a college degree. Basically restating what I've been hearing since elementary school, if you do well in college and get a degree, you end up making more money than someone who only has a high school diploma. Carol Carter, on the other hand, briefly spoke about preparations for real-world jobs. One must have a moral job and enjoy it. She used the example of the Egyptian pyramids built approximately 4500 years ago; throughout the many many years since they've existence and every type of weather condition they've had to withstand, they're still there. The Egyptians thought about living in the now and not worrying about the future.
Many people have dreams and aspirations of what they want to become and what they want to own when they are older. For most, in order to achieve that goal, they must receive some form of a higher education, mainly college. Some people do it just for the ability to be prefixed "Doctor". Others however, such as myself, are materialistic and only want possessions. The goal for me and others like me is to own things that show off our wealth and affluent lifestyle. Seeing as the field of mechanical engineering has the 2nd lowest rate on the chart of open jobs after college, it seems difficult to acquire a job. I am thinking in the moment. As many other college freshman are doing, I'm simply trying to complete my general education and then try to get into the field of mechanical engineering (which already requires 30 units more to graduate than the average major).
